IVP Imaging

This type of imaging plays an important role in diagnosing urinary tract problems

What is IVP?

IVP is a type of X-ray imaging that analyzes kidneys, bladder and ureters. IVP is not as common as the other types of imaging (such as CT scan). The doctor would order IVP imaging on the condition that there is blood in the urine or pain in the sides or lower back.

IVP helps doctors take a thorough look at the patient's urinary system in order to detect any kind of blockage which would be caused by the following factors:

-Kidney stones

-Enlarged prostate

-Tumors in kidneys, ureters or bladder

-Scars caused by surgery or urinary tract infections

-Congenital problems in urinary system

IVP provides the doctors with detailed information and the doctors usually cure these kinds of blockages with medications; otherwise, there might be a surgery.
